Ribes, or Blackcurrant, belongs to the Grossulariaceae family. Its light green deciduous foliage gives of a scent of currents when rubbed. It produces fragrant yellow or bright red flowers in hanging bunches in March-April. Its black or purple fruits appear in August. It can be grown in ordinary soil. It prefers a sunny position, and can be grown as a specimen, in groups, in planting schemes with other shrubs, in beds or informal hedges.
