Aucuba is a shrub belonging to the Garryaceae family. This dioecious species with unisex flowers bears male and female flowers on different specimens. Its long-lasting foliage produces insignificant white flowers from March to April on male specimens and elliptical red fruits on the females. It is ideally planted in sparse woodland as understory, as a single specimen or in a group, planted with peat-loving shrubs in island beds. It is also recommended for containers for balconies, terraces and patios.
