Large conical form, dense, bluish-green foliage in summer, turning a plum purple colour in winter. This light and smooth foliage retains its juvenile aspect. Browny red bark, flaking in thin vertical strips. A good conifer for large flowerbeds with heathland soil, rock gardens, isolated or forming hedges. Robust plant. Slightly chalky soils are tolerated. Synonym : 'Yamara-sugi'.
