Very hardy, tolerent and indigenous shrubs. It grows well in both dry and moist soils and appreciates chalky soils. It holds slopes and banks thanks to its stoloniferous roots. Resistant to heat, shade, pollution and wind. Its dark green elliptical leaves of 5 to 12 cm longs turns bordeaux red in autumn. Its branches have a purple red colour. The crown of the shrub has white flowers that are perfumed in May and followed by very bitter and purplish-black fruits.
