Beautiful dark purple-red foliage. A compact, upright shrub with rapid growth and strongly thorny. Small light yellow flowers in May followed by some red fruits in September-October. Tolerant and easy to grow, excellent in free, low or defensive hedges. Hybrid between B. thunbergii and B. vulgaris. The first hybrids of this series appeared at the beginning of the century at the Ottawa Experimental Station.
