Deciduous, dark purple-red foliage turning fire-red in autumn. Small oval leaves of 2 to 3 cm long. Thorny branches. Small yellow bell-shaped flowering in May. Bright red berries of 8 mm diameter in September-October. Dense vegetation, flexible and compact shape with drooping ends. Melliferous plant. Can be planted alone or in a group, goes well with other shrubs from different coloured foliage. Excellent in free hedges that can be kept at 1 to 1.20 m above the ground by pruning every year.
