A sturdy shrub, branches starting at the base, well erect. Laciniated foliage, tinted red in the spring, green in summer, going from orangy-yellow to purple-red in autumn. Decorative bright red branches in winter. Prefers a not too chalky soil, rich, cool and well drained. Can grow to 5m with age while staying erect. Its name means 'Green Dragon' in japanese, and the variety is known there before 1882.
