Vigorous and unusual shrub, larger than it is tall, semi-weeping in a mushroom form. Purple-red in spring and summer, turning scarlet red in autumn. Prefers a cool rich and well drained soil, not too chalky. Relatively resistant to drought. Inaba means 'Rice leaf' and 'Shidare' designates drooping forms in Japan.
