Erect, vigorous, dense and bushy plant. Leaves stay purple in summer, especially in a sunny exposure. Beautiful, scarlet red colours in autumn. Lovely and original, deeply cut, palmed leaves, of 4-7cm, with narrow, lightly coiling lobes. Prefers a not too chalky soil, cool, rich and well drained. Seedlings discovered by chance by Van Hoey Smith (NL) in 1965 in his famous Arboretum Trompenburg at Rotterdam. Can grow to 5m with age.
