Narrow columnar-shaped tree with upright shoots thightly set along the trunk. The male plant has red catkins in March-April. Its foliage appear 3 weeks before the rest of the species. It has a bronze triangular foliage that is 6 to 8 cm long. The foliage is finely serrated, it has a dark green colour on the upper side of the leaves, lighter underside and is turning yellow in autumn. It is often used as a green screen or a windbreak hedge.
