Small, stocky shrub, compact and dense. The dark green and slightly curving leaves, will get purple tints. The leaf is oval, ending in a tip, and between 5-15cm long. Numerous white, purple tinted flowers, surrounded with purple bracts, from June to September. From August to November, long bunches of dark purple berries appear, 1cm in diameter, and appreciated by birds, including pheasants. The erect green stems are tube-like, and droop in age.
