Magnificent graphical plant, original and rustic when well established. Large tough downy leaves. Remarkable white, flat petalled flowers with purpely centers (even in a chalky soil), in July-August. A lovely flaking bark. Can grow slowly to over 3m in height and 2m in width. An excellent plant for cool half-shade zones, sheltered from winds. One of the rare hydrangeas tolerating chalky soils. The soil must not be too moist in winter.
