Dense and compact, bushy from the base and sturdy. Reputed to be the darkest of the purple Maples. Beautiful large palmed leaves of 10cm with 5 pointed lobes and 2 smaller ones at the base. Purple throughout the season turning bright red in the autumn. Red flowers in small bunches before leaves appear, followed by red, winged, decorative berries
