Wisteria – Famille des Fabaceae
Tradition & innovation Minier

W. floribunda 'MACROBOTRYS'
In 1900, MINIER's stock plant area already carried a good selection of Wisteria. Nowadays we offer a far wider choice and grow over 120,000 Wisteria per year.
All of our cultivars are propagated by grafting. A technique which means that the plant will flower from when it is 2 to 4 years old, compared to seedling raised Wisteria which can take 10 years to flower.
Also all of our plants pass through a period when they are grown in the ground , subsequently they are potted and grown on outside. This gives them the opportunity to make a good shaped plant which will carry flower bud.
Wisteria floribunda (Japanese Wisteria)

Wisteria
floribunda 'ALBA'
Its stems twine clockwise.
Flowers open successively from the base to the top of the huge panicles that reach 50cm long.
The cultivars MINIER offer today were originally from Japan. The Japanese names (which have recently resurfaced as 'new plants') were 'latinised' when they arrived in Europe in the 19th century. We prefer to keep to this tradition.
Wisteria sinensis (Chinese Wisteria)

Wisteria sinensis
Its stems twine anti clockwise
The Chinese Wisteria flowers three years from grafting. Flowers open simultaneously in panicles 25 to 35 cm long.
Flowering period is from end of April early May before the leaves, a second bloom happens in early
summer, panicles are shorter.
We grow a range of cultivars with large and prolific flowers.
Wisteria venusta or brachybotrys

Wisteria
venusta 'ALBA'
It is the « velutinous Wisteria », originally from Japan, this delicately perfumed plant can be kept as a bush or small standard.
Close to W. floribunda, but different by having larger florets, its panicles are smaller, but more numerous.
It has the huge advantage of flowering when still quite young.
Wisteria x formosa 'Issaï'

Wisteria
x formosa 'ISSAÏ'
Supposedly a hybrid between W. Sinensis and W. Floribunda, this cultivar, which is a prolific flowerer, blooms after only two years.
It offers a gorgeous covering of blue W. sinensis like flowers.
