Very floriferous, melliferous and perfumed. Purple blue flowers in dense and hanging bunches of 20-30cm, flowering early at the end of April-May, before the W. sinensis and venusta varieties. Will have a lighter repeat flowering in summer, with smaller bunches. Can be pruned into a shrub. Stems wind around props in a clockwise fashion. Leaves are composed of 13-15 little leaflets, oval and pointed at the tip, dark green, turning yellow in autumn. The young shoots are a bronze colour..
