Weeping shape, vigorous, dense and bushy. Very thin, lacinate and deeply divided foliage that remains dark purple throughout the season, from 5 to 8 cm long with 5 to 7 lobes. Its colour was named 'Garnet Red' on the Royal Horticultural Society's colour chart (UK), hence its name. Prefers low calcareous, rich, fresh and drained soil. Can grow over 3 meters tall with age. It was found by the Guldemond brothers (NL) in an Italian rootstocks seeding batch in 1959.
